Family-Friendly Things to Do in Canaan Valley
Canaan Valley has so many attractions that the whole family will love, many of which are near our vacation rentals. Here’s a glimpse of what your family can look forward to this Thanksgiving weekend when staying in Canaan Valley.
Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge
The Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge has many events throughout the year. It’s a terrific way to get the family outdoors and explore Canaan Valley. Family-friendly events include bird walks, flower-spotting guided hikes, a Canaan Valley history walk, and many more that depend on the season.
Scenic Chairlift Ride
A relaxing and awe-inspiring thing to do with your family is to enjoy a scenic chairlift and see the valley and the Allegheny Mountains from a new perspective. It’s especially amazing during the summer and fall months. It’s one of the best views in the valley, so please take pictures when you are up there!
Ice Skating
If your family is here later in the year, you can rent a pair of skates and ice skates at Canaan Valley Lodge. The rink includes an outdoor fireplace and great Canaan Valley and Allegheny Mountains views.
Check out the options below for three of our largest and most desirable homes when entertaining a large group.
Hickory House
Hickory House is our largest vacation rental, perfect for those with a large extended family. It has eight bedrooms and seven bathrooms and can accommodate 23 people. One of the highlights of this property is the large living room. There is lots of seating centered around a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace. There is also lots of room outside to relax, such as dining on the large deck with grills, tables, and outdoor furniture. Wind down after a big Thanksgiving meal in the eight-person hot tub, too.
Lakeside Refuge
Another large vacation rental is the Lakeside Refuge, which offers five bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms and can accommodate up to 16 guests. This is the place to stay if you want to spoil your family with stunning views. This property overlooks Sand Run Lake and the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge, which you can see thanks to the large windows in the living room, kitchen, dining area, and loft. We encourage you to take advantage of the wilderness, which includes a private playground, two canoes with life jackets and oars, a hot tub, a fire pit, and lounge chairs.
Ole Fezziwig’s
This home features three levels, including five bedrooms (with a loft) and three baths, accommodating 14 family members. Those that want to take on the Canaan Valley wilderness will love that Ole Fezziwig’s allows you to hike or bike directly down to the Timberline Mountain Ski Lifts or hike/bike up to several connecting trails, including Dolly Sods.
